if the christian writers are serious about their beliefs, shouldnt their books about god be a lot less pricey?

They don't have any control over the price. The publisher sets the price and they have to take into account the huge discounts that the distributors and large bookstore chains demand. This is true for all books. I donate most of the Christian books I buy to my church library after I’m through. This was something that came to me one day after reading a book that I got a lot from. If it meant something to me I should pass it on for others to read. Many churches have decent libraries.

Is there any reason to believe the Christian bible, over other holy books such as the Bhagavad Gita,?

and the Dhammapada? The Bhagavad Gita and Dhammapada were around long before the bible, and have first hand accounts of events, rather than being written decades afterwards like the bible. The Bhagavad Gita and Dhammapada also have far more historicity than the bible. So what makes them less believable than the bible?

Christians try to discredit other holy books because they are afraid that their followers will convert to another religion. And the Christian bible is NOT a historical accurate book

Harry Potter books against Christian belief...?

I went to Starbucks today with a friend of mine. Told her I've been reading the Harry Potter books (I'm currently on the 2nd one). She got all shocked and said: "No, don't read them!!! They're going against God." Now, I believe in God (but I'm not a Christian, I'm religious-less), and I told her that... "It's just a fiction book made to entertain, it's not meant to throw you off the path of rightousness" (Haha). So...my question is: Do Harry Potter books REALLY go against God and what not? Why did my friend freak out like that? They're good books/movies! Thanks.

It's sad your friend doesn't understand the definition of 'fiction'. Tell her the Bible is even considered fiction since its claims are only theory. You can also tell your friend to never watch The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and a plethora of other films because they all contain witchcraft, therefore, are 'harming the world'. Your friend is being ignorant because she doesn't fully understand something because her god doesn't want her to. In order to oppose something, you must fully understand what you're opposing. If she's never read them, she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about.

Would It Make A Writer Any Less Of A Christian If He or She Liked Books About Magic, Other Gods, etc?

Let's say that hypothetically, there is this writer who is also a Christian. They're pretty devoted to their faith but they're also liberal in the sense that they're very accepting of many other things that deal with subjects that might be offensive to some people (namely the very conservative Christians). So let's say that this hypothetical writer-Christian liked to read and write books that deal with magic, demons/angels, other Gods (nearly all of which are derived from Greco-Roman mythology), and the like. Would that make that person a "bad Christian" just because they liked to read stuff like that? Thanks for your feedback. I'm sure this hypothetical writer will appreciate your input very much :]

If the writer is writing things for the fiction genre and believes that they are playing in a fictional universe than I see no conflict with that writer's faith.

Why is America Becoming Less Christian and Less Religious. Why is Atheism on the rise?

America Is Becoming Less Christian, Less Religious American Religious Identification Survey Finds Major Denominations Losing Members By DAN HARRIS March 9, 2009 America is still a predominantly Christian nation, but it's becoming both less Christian and less religious, according to the results of the new American Religious Identification Survey. New survey finds 15 percent of Americans now say they have no religion.According to the poll, which came out today, the percentage of Americans who define themselves as Christian has dropped from 86 percent in 1990 to 76 percent in 2008. In one of the most dramatic shifts, 15 percent of Americans now say they have no religion -- a figure that's almost doubled in 18 years. Americans with no religious preference are now larger than all other major religious groups except Catholics and Baptists. Have You Seen Changes at Your Place of Worship? Tell ABC News. "What seems to be happening is there is a decline in what we might call traditional brand loyalty to the old denominations, specific churches," said Barry Kosmin, a principle investigator for the American Religious Identification Survey. Related Follow Dan Harris on Twitter!Survey: Americans 'Non-Dogmatic' About ReligionWATCH: No Texting, No Tweeting During Lent In the last 18 years, despite population growth and immigration, almost all religious denominations have lost ground. Mainline Protestants are down the most. Methodists, for example, have gone from 8 to 5 percent. Baptists are down from 19.3 to 15.8. And Jews are down from 1.8 to 1.2 percent. Meanwhile, the number of atheists, while still small, has nearly doubled from 900,000 to 1.6 million. Kosmin says that people may feel more comfortable admitting their lack of faith at a time when atheist books, like Christopher Hitchens' "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" and movies are getting a lot of attention. Comedian Bill Maher took aim at religion in his documentary film "Religulous," saying that he preaches "the gospel of 'I Don't Know.'"

Is it okay to update the Christian bible to be less sexist?

Does this scripture apply if a woman updates the bible? Revelation 22:19 (King James Version) 19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Unfortunately in a rigid structure like christianity, if you change even one part of the basis it brings everything else under suspicion. The next problem is who are you going to get to agree to it? And as to a woman doing it... there is, in Timothy I think, the rule of women not being allowed into a position of authority over men in the church. Sort of keeps them from being able to change anything. Reverend Willy
